MAIN
POINTS OF DIAGNOSIS
- There is an individual lump in the front part of the neck. It is soft,
smooth and well limited. When the patient swallows, it moves up and down.
- There are not any symptoms present. The lump itself grows very slowly.
In most cases it does not get larger for many years. If it happens to bleed
in a cystadenoma, the lump will increase very quickly accompanied with distending
pain, pressing sensation and discomfortable feeling.
- A larger thyroid adenoma may compress the trachea and causes distress
and disturbance in respiration.
- Some people will cause eye protrude, heart beats heavily ( palpitation
) or the chest feels uncomfortable, hand in vibration.
- Isotopic Iodine-131 Scanning shows that the adenoma is mostly a warm
nodule while the cyst is mostly a cool nodule. On ultrasonography reflection
of liquid segment will be seen. If the liquid in the cyst is thick and sticky,
tiny wave may be found in liquid segment.
